Class One

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to to Class One! Here, you will find all the information you need about our class at Ovingham C of E First School.

Reading Books

On Mondays, children will bring their home school diaries back in. These are used to record progress in reading and also pass on any messages between home and school. Every week, children will receive two books to read. These will be matched to their reading level and will contain sounds that they have been recently taught. It is also good to encourage children to re-read their books to boost fluency. Once they have read their school books, they could read books that they enjoy at home too!

Water Bottles

Children are to bring their bottles in on a Monday and keep them in school all week. They can take them home again on a Friday to be washed over the weekend.

Wellies/Outdoor Shoes

We are fortunate to have beautiful grounds at Ovingham CE First School and we use them at every possible opportunity, whatever the weather! We ask that children have a pair of wellies or sturdy outdoor shoes that are kept in school for these occasions.

We are very lucky to have our Wednesday PE session delivered by the NUFC Foundation. Everyone loves Mr. Lambert! We also have a short PE session on a Thursday afternoon. This half term we are focusing on bat and ball skills so the children have been staying in their normal uniform.

Forest School

We have recently rolled out Forest School across all the classes and the children have enjoyed the introductory lessons. Our session will take place every Tuesday afternoon. Children can come into school in old clothes but will need to have wellies or sturdy outdoor shoes, a jumper and a waterproof coat. Miss McPherson has some great activities planned and the children are also encouraged to work independently, whether this is coming up with their own games or climbing trees!
