Class One

November 2020

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome back to the second half of our Autumn term. As we enter into a new lockdown period, we have reminded children about the importance of social distancing and handwashing. The children have enjoyed making themselves into airplanes to ensure they are maintaining their 2m distance!

This half term, we will be starting our half term by reading Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. In our English lessons we will continue working on our sentence writing focusing on punctuation. We will be exploring some non-fiction books where the children will be writing their own fact files! In Geography we will be learning about continents and oceans, focusing on the location of hot and cold countries. We will be looking at how penguins are adapted to live in cold climates and compare them to animals from warmer climates. In their art lessons, children will be exploring how they can change the shade of a colour using different media and create their own penguin art!

The children have worked incredibly hard in all maths lessons and have learnt all about part whole models using numbers 1-10. This half term, we will be focusing on the number bonds to 10 and linking this to addition and subtraction towards the end of the half term.

Children will continue their NUFC PE lessons every Wednesday. As the weather changes, children can bring joggers and trainers for these sessions as we will try to be outside as much as possible!

Last half term we introduced some red work activities which the children took home. If you could continue with this at home and we will update the words they are focusing on every two weeks.

Alongside this, we will also upload a weekly homework task to Google Classroom. This will usually be a powerpoint presentation focusing on an element of learning from that week. The children have been using the online platform in computing lessons and have been brilliant at logging on and finding their task! If you have any problems logging on at home please let me know.

Once again I would like to thank you all again for your continued support this term. It has been lovely having all of our children back in school again and even if we can’t gather together as we normally would, they have enjoyed taking part in virtual events instead!

If there is anything else you need, please do not hesitate to contact us at pick up and drop off times or via our admin email.
