SEND - Aims and Equal Access in D&T


Design & Technology allows pupils to apply their learning from all different areas of the curriculum in a practical and creative way. Often, children with SEND excel in these subjects due to their practical nature.

Equal Access 

Review and Revisit

Within a unit of work, children are first given some time to explore products that already exist in order to fully understand what they are creating. Before designing their own, children take part in focused tasks where they are able to embed a skill before using it in their final product. 

Teacher Modelling

 Techniques are modelled clearly throughout the lesson. Examples are given as a starting point and further supported by pictorial guidance where appropriate.


Children are given enough time to complete a task and where necessary, extra time is given to allow children to finish.
