§         Children from Y3 took part in the Gym Festival at PCHS on Tuesday 24th November. Their performance was brilliant, down to their hard work and the support of Mrs Woodward and Mrs Russell.

·         The school football team played their first competitive match against Wylam. Unfortunately we lost, but the team played well and should be proud of themselves!

·         Class assemblies are in full swing, so far Year 2 and Reception have completed theirs and Year 3 are next!

·         Reception will soon be welcoming new starters for their first taste of Ovingham First School. The staff are looking forward to meeting the children and helping them to quickly settle into school life.

·         Year 2 had a great time at St. Mary’s lighthouse. The weather was kind and the children had the chance to explore the sea shore with their groups.

·         Year 1 have been learning about the layout and history of Ovingham. After a walk around the village, identifying buildings and their uses, the children have been busy in school completing maps.

·         A fabulous time was had by Year 4 on our recent residential stay on Hadrian’s Wall. The children enjoyed the experience so much that some even wished for a second night!

·         Year 4 have played against Wylam, winning one and loosing one. Excellent team spirit and hard work!

·         OFSCARS - A celebration with the whole school community of the films produced by the children in Year 1 & 3. The film's are fabulous!

·         Our raised vegetable beds have been built by Year 4 and are now planted with a variety seeds. Volunteers in Year 4 will be looking after the gardens in the holidays and hopefully we will see some changes in the garden when we come back. Northumbrian Organics will hopefully be supplying some plants such as cabbages.

·         The Creative Partnerships Project is in full flow. The children in Year 1 and Year 3 have filmed several reports on  including the School Council and growing plants. Currently Ellie Land is working with the children in editing their work and adding in animation. The children have learnt a wide variety of skills and not just in film production. We will be organising a film show for the children and parents later in the term.

·         Year 4 now has a link with a French Primary School (Ecole primaire de Boutenac, BOUTENAC). From January we will be exchanging messages in both English and French. We look forward to being able to share our school community with them.

·         Children from Y3 took part in the Gym Festival at PCHS on Wednesday 13th November. Their performance was brilliant, down to their hard work and the support of Mrs. Davies and Mrs. Richards.

·         We are now part of the Food For Life programme. Through this project our work in school on the subject of food and sustainability is recognised with an award. We are also able to take our involvement further, the children will be encouraged to take part in growing and cooking their own food, which will hopefully lead to further recognition.

·         Year 4 parents came into school 4th November to find out more about our exciting plans for this years field trip.

Shine week

This is a nationally promoted week where schools showcase all that they do.  We took part last year.  This year we want to develop it still further as a response to some Parent Questionnaires requesting more opportunities to see what we do in school and the pupils’ work.  Tuesday, 7th July, 3.00 p.m. has been earmarked as an opportunity for parents to look at their child’s work, look at displays, see films made by pupils and explore the grounds where School Councillors will be acting as guides showing the vegetable beds etc.  Further details will emerge later this term.
